How to Use an AI API with Python
Python is a common choice for AI automation because HTTP requests can be added with a small amount of code. The most important part is not the request itself but reliable validation and error handling.
A minimal client
A small wrapper around an HTTP POST request keeps your application code clean. Pass the endpoint, JSON payload, headers, and timeout explicitly.
Always use timeouts
Never allow a network request to wait forever. A timeout lets your program recover from an unavailable service and return a useful error.
Validate responses
Check the status code and expected JSON fields before using the result. External APIs can change or return error objects even when your own request is syntactically valid.
Keep secrets server-side
If an API requires a private key, load it from an environment variable or secret store. Do not put private keys in source code or client-side applications.
